Why Your Handicap Has Plateaued (and What the Data Says)
TL;DRPlateaus aren't talent ceilings. They're feedback gaps.
ATX Golf Performance··5 min read
If your handicap hasn't moved in a year despite regular play, one of three things is true. None of them is "you've hit your ceiling."
The three causes
- Practice mismatch — you practice driver; you lose shots on approach. Most common.
- No honest data — you don't know where you actually leak shots, so practice is a guess.
- Technique cap — rarest. Real, but only after the first two are ruled out.
The fix order
Log 5 rounds. Identify the biggest negative strokes-gained category. Spend 70% of practice there for 4 weeks. Re-measure. If movement: keep going. If none: book a lesson and bring the data.
FAQ
How long should a handicap plateau last before I worry?+
Six months of consistent play and practice with no movement means something in the loop is broken — usually the diagnosis, not the work.
