Roy Kizer Strategy Guide: Austin's Best Muni Value

TL;DRWide fairways and big greens — your job is to keep your card clean.

ATX Golf Performance··5 min read

Kizer is the easiest scoring course in Austin and the most popular for a reason: walkable, wide, and welcoming. The trap is that easy courses lull amateurs into careless approach shots and three-jacks. Stay disciplined and you'll post your career round here.

What makes Kizer scoreable

  • Wide fairways — driver is the right club on every par 4.
  • Big, soft greens — middle of the green is rarely more than 30 ft from the pin.
  • Flat lies — no awkward ball-above-feet excuses.

Where amateurs throw it away

The three par 5s are all reachable in two for big hitters and easy birdies for everyone with smart layups. Layup to 100 yards every time — not 60, not 80. A full wedge is your scoring shot; a half-wedge is most amateurs' worst.

Stop guessing what to work on.
