Lions Municipal Strategy Guide: How to Play Muny in Austin
TL;DRShort on paper, long on punishment if you ignore the firm fairways and crowned greens.

Lions Municipal — Muny to locals — is the truest test of an honest mid-handicap game in Austin. Flat fairways, small greens, and old-school routing. The trouble isn't dramatic; it's cumulative.
The course in one paragraph
6,001 yards from the tips, par 71. Tree-lined, firm fairways, postage-stamp greens, classic 1920s routing. The kind of course where a 9-iron is a better play than a wedge.
Strategy by stretch
- Holes 1–6: Easy start. Bank your strokes here. Two birdie chances on the par 5s.
- Holes 7–12: The defense. Crowned greens reject anything not landed properly. Aim middle, accept par.
- Holes 13–18: Three short par 4s with placement off the tee. Hit 3-wood or hybrid. The hole earns nothing for driver heroics.
