The studio

There's a real room behind this app.

Coach by ATX was written in a coaching studio off Wild Basin Road, between lessons. The questions the app asks you after a round are the same ones our coaches ask across the hitting bay — because that's where they were written down.

Twelve tracks we know by heart

From Muny to the Match Play track.

Coach by ATX pulls the hole-by-hole layout for any course in the 40,000-course database. These twelve are the ones our coaches play every week — and what they actually take from you.

Municipal

West Austin

Lions Municipal Golf Course

Flat, walkable, and short enough that your driver is a decision rather than a default. The greens are small and sit slightly above grade, so a pushed approach kicks away from the hole rather than feeding to it — most rounds here are lost to short-siding, not to length.

Municipal

East Austin

Morris Williams Golf Course

The tightest tee-to-green test inside the loop. Mature pecans and oaks squeeze the corridors, and the doglegs punish a shot shape you can't control. If your miss is two-way, Muny hides it and Morris Williams finds it.

Public

Southwest Austin

Grey Rock Golf Club

Hill Country elevation means your yardage and your carry are two different numbers all day. Uphill approaches play a club longer than the book, downhill par 3s ride the wind, and the greens sit on rock ledges that reject anything landing short.

Municipal

South Austin

Roy Kizer Golf Course

Wide off the tee, then all the trouble is around the greens — water, native grass, and a lot of exposed wind. It's the best local track for finding out whether your wedge distances are real or theoretical.

Municipal

South Austin

Jimmy Clay Golf Course

The honest one. Big greens, few tricks, and a par that has to be earned with approach play rather than recovery. Shares the Roy Kizer clubhouse, so most locals play the pair back to back.

Municipal

South Central

Butler Pitch & Putt

Nine holes under the downtown skyline, all wedge. Not a scoring round — a controlled test of distance from 40 to 90 yards, which is exactly the range most Austin golfers can't measure anywhere else.

Public

Bee Cave

Falconhead Golf Club

Wide Hill Country fairways with severe greens and false fronts. Good drives get rewarded here more than anywhere in town, which means it flatters a driver problem you'd pay for at Morris Williams.

Public

Northwest Austin

Avery Ranch Golf Club

Water in play on more than half the holes and a set of forced carries that make you commit. A round here tells you fast whether your under-pressure club selection matches your comfortable club selection.

Private

Lakeway

Yaupon at Clubs of Lakeway

A tight, mature Lakeway layout with elevation change on nearly every tee shot. Short by the card, long by the second shot, and the greens run away toward Lake Travis more often than they look like they should.

Private

West Austin

Austin Country Club

The Pete Dye course on the Colorado River that hosted the WGC Dell Match Play. Wind off the water, severe green complexes, and the 13th under the Pennybacker Bridge. Nothing about it is generous.

Private

Steiner Ranch

UT Golf Club

Firm, fast, and exposed out in Steiner Ranch. The fairway contours push shots toward the edges, so a drive that finishes middle here is a genuinely good one — not a default.

Resort

Southwest Austin

Barton Creek — Fazio Foothills

Waterfalls, cliffs, and a hundred feet of elevation change fifteen minutes from downtown. Every approach is either uphill or downhill; almost none is flat. Your stock yardage is nearly useless without adjustment.

The Combine

Five buckets. One honest scorecard for your game.

Every golfer who walks into ATX Golf Performance gets scored across the same five buckets before a single swing change is discussed. Coach by ATX runs that same evaluation on the rounds you're already playing — no studio visit required to see where you stand.

Austin teaching lineage

One thought at a time.

Austin has been a teaching town since long before launch monitors. Harvey Penick spent most of a century at Austin Country Club, and the method he left behind was almost aggressively simple: give a golfer one thought, let them own it, and don't hand them the second one until the first is theirs.

He kept his observations in a red notebook rather than a system, and he refused to teach a swing model — he taught the player in front of him. Take dead aim. Play with people who are better than you. Practice the shot you're afraid of.

Coach by ATX is that idea, running on your own data. Every round ends with one process goal — not a report card, not nine things to fix. The Strokes Gained engine decides which single thought is worth the most shots to you right now, and that's the only one it gives you before your next tee time.
